Whether you are a precision shooter, someone just interested in plinking away at targets in a field, or someone who is a “why does that happen” geek, Part 1 of my Science of Recoil series might just teach you a bit about what goes on with a rifle during firing, and why having a soft shoulder is an important part of recoil management.

This video is the first of a three-part series that looks at the science and dynamics of recoil. In this series I focus not on what to do and how to do it with respect to recoil management – there are people much more able to explain these things appropriately. Instead I focus on the dynamics of the forces involved to try to explain why doing those things is important. I find that when people know the “why” they are more apt to adopt the “what” and “how.”

This video goes waaaaay beyond the three-minute limit I’ve imposed upon myself for these videos, but there is just too much information to convey, and it’s not suitable for splitting up. The next two will be more in line…
